Bangsilog is a popular silog dish served for breakfast in the Philippines.
What exactly is Filipino silog?
The meal’s name is actually a combination of the three components that comprise the dish. “Sinangag” means garlic fried rice in Filipino, while “itlog” means fried egg. When all of these ingredients are combined with a viand, such as beef tapa (cured beef), longganisa (Filipino sweet sausage), or bangus (milkfish), the following results:
Bang = milkfish + Si = sinangag + log = itlog = fried egg
This meal’s main ingredients are bangus (milkfish), garlic fried rice, and fried eggs. The butterflied milkfish is pan-fried in oil until golden brown after being marinated with garlic, vinegar, and ground pepper. The eggs are sunny side up, and the cold-cooked rice is fried in garlic oil.
The bangsilog is made by combining all three ingredients on a plate; the fried fish and eggs are frequently placed on top of the rice. Fresh tomatoes or cucumbers are frequently served as a side dish, as is a spicy vinegar dip for the fish.
